Julien Kocabiyik is a patent attorney trainee at Grund IP Group. His areas of expertise in the field of intellectual property protection include biotechnology and pharmacology as well as marine biology and chemistry.
Before starting a career in intellectual property law, Julien studied biology with a specialization in metabolic physiology and aquaculture at the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf.
In recognition of his expertise in aquaculture, he received a scholarship from AquaFUTURE e.K. in cooperation with Heinrich Heine University (HHU) to pursue further studies at Cornell University. During his PhD at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), he conducted research in pharmacology, molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology, with a particular focus on the mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZO1. His work on nuclear core receptors involved extensive genetic engineering as well as confocal fluorescence microscopy, leading to an improvement of endocrinological methods. He used ex vivo isobaric arteriography to study PIEZO1 function in transgenic mice, an extremely technically challenging project that required a strong technical understanding and resulted in important findings, including a manuscript currently in preparation for publication in a prestigious journal.
