Sarah is a qualified European Patent Attorney, German Patent Attorney (Patentanwältin) and European Trademark and Design Attorney, who joined Grund IP Group in 2020. Sarah has expertise in drafting and prosecuting European, German and international (PCT) patent applications as well as EU and DE trademark and design applications, in addition to being intensively involved in inter partes opposition proceedings and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office and other proceedings before the German Patent & Trademark Office. Her technical proficiency extends to inventions originating from the areas of oncology, genetics, immunology, virology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemical techniques and diagnostics, pharmaceutical sciences, medical computer and software sciences, and related medical devices in the mechanical arts.

Prior to pursuing a career in intellectual property law, Sarah studied genetics and also molecular medicine focusing on human and plant genetics, immunology, and stem cell research, especially stem cell aging. Her PhD thesis involved continued work in the field of onco-immunology, in particular on immune checkpoint blockade and the signaling pathway of the pattern recognition receptor RIG-I, and the genetic modification of this pathway using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. Another important aspect of her work concerned the isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles/exosomes from tumor cells.
