Julius joined Grund IP Group in 2016 as a patent attorney candidate, and continues to perfect his skills in the drafting and prosecution (and defense) of European, German and PCT patent, trademark and design applications, in addition to preparing documents for both opposition proceedings and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office. His focus is on inventions originating from the technical areas of organic chemistry, pharmacy, immunology, virology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemical techniques and diagnostics, pharmaceutical sciences and related medical devices in the mechanical arts.
Prior to pursuing a career in intellectual property law, Julius studied biochemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in his hometown of Frankfurt am Main. His undergraduate studies focused on protein biochemistry, organic chemistry, biophysical chemistry (e.g. NMR spectroscopy) and immunology. During the time of his diploma thesis, he worked in Zoe Waibler’s group at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, Langen, Germany. The topic of this thesis was the activation of T lymphocytes by endothelial cells. For his PhD thesis, Julius Kühn continued to work in the field of immunology, investigating intracellular signaling pathways in the activation of B lymphocytes. He conducted this work in Jürgen Wienands’ group at the University Medical Center of Göttingen, Germany. During his PhD studies, he did a research internship at the Hôpital Necker-Enfants Malades, Paris, France.
